Obituary

Betty Christy Humphries, age 88, of Cleveland, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 17, 2026.

Born in Lumpkin County, Georgia, on October 4, 1938, she was a daughter of the late H.H. Christy and Jessie Helton Christy Styles.

Betty was a woman of remarkable strength, determination, and unwavering devotion to her family. Following the passing of her beloved husband, she courageously took on the responsibilities of owning and operating the family poultry farm for many years. Through her strong work ethic, perseverance, and independent spirit, she demonstrated the true meaning of dedication and resilience.

Betty found great joy in the simple blessings of life, especially spending time outdoors and appreciating the beauty of God's creation. She was a woman who valued hard work, cherished the comforts of home, and found contentment in the life she had built. Her quiet strength, steadfast nature, and the example she set through her years of dedication will remain a treasured part of her legacy.

A woman of faith, Betty was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church, where her Christian beliefs were an important part of her life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Barnett Humphries; daughter, Nancy Perkins; brother, James Christy; and sister, Anne Kent.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis Haney (Randy); son-in-law, Brian Perkins (Heather); grandchildren, Emma Perkins, Nathan Perkins (Andriella), and Jared Haney (Amanda); great grandson, Joseph Perkins; sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda Leslie (Tom) and Eva Nix (Gene); sister-in-law, Marijane Christy; brother-in-law, Charles Kent; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at New Bridge Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Lewis Fortner officiating.
