GLADYS MAE AYERS, age 76 of Homer, passed away Monday, March 12, 2012, at her residence.
  
  Born in Bryson City, NC on May 18, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Bonnie Branton Anderson.  Mrs. Ayers was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Hayesville, NC, worked for many years as a store clerk, and was a homemaker.  She enjoyed shopping, traveling and reading, but most of all spending time with her family.
  
  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ayers was also preceded in death by a son, David Lee Ayers; sister, Pauline Gobble; and grandson, Rev. Jonathan Ayers.
  
  Survivors include husband of 60 years, David Creed Ayers of Homer; daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and David Trexler and Cathy and Tim Martin all of Homer; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Anna Ayers of Athens, Jeff and Lisa Ayers of Hendersonville, NC and Tim and Lee Ayers of Baldwin; son, Nathaniel Ayers of Decatur, TN; brothers, Charles Anderson of Hayesville, NC and Steve Anderson of Webster, NC; sisters, JoAnn Eanes, June Conrad and Wanda Kennedy all of Lexington, NC; 14 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephew, many other relatives and friends.
  
  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 15, 2012, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Bryson and Rev. Kenneth Kilby officiating.  Interment will follow in Banks County Memorial Gardens.
  
  The family will receive friends from 5-9 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
