Gretchen Gissibl Krane, age 85, of Toccoa, Georgia, formerly of Waukegan, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 27, 2026.

Born on June 18, 1941, Gretchen was the daughter of the late Peter Gissibl and Paula Eisner Gissibl. She was a loving and devoted woman who cherished the simple joys of life, especially spending time outdoors and working on projects around her home. She had a creative spirit, a strong work ethic, and found happiness in caring for the place she called home.

Above all, Gretchen loved her family. She treasured the memories made with those closest to her and will be remembered for the love, kindness, and warmth she shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her.

In addition to her parents, Gretchen was preceded in death by her husband, Franz Krane; her son, William “Billy” Schalck; and her brother, Mickey Gissibl.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Pete Schalck; Billy’s wife, Alison Schalck; grandchildren, Merisal, Brianna, and Steven Schalck; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
