Herschel Cantrell

Hershel James Cantrell, Sr., age 92, of Cornelia, passed away Wednesday, August 07, 2013 at his residence.
Born on August 31, 1920 in Sautee Georgia, he was a son of the late Sam and Drucilla Chastain Cantrell. Mr. Cantrell was the former owner and operator of Cantrell Service Station as well as a former deputy sheriff and police officer. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church and a WWII U.S. Army veteran.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cantrell was also preceded in death by his wife, Reba Hilton Cantrell; great grandson, Daniel Tatum; five brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include son, Hershel James Cantrell, Jr. of Cornelia; son and daughter-in-law, Andrew Buddy and Janice Cantrell of Alto; daughters, Reba Sue Arrendale and Priscilla Lee Martin both of Cornelia; sister-in-law, Nellie Cantrell of Mt. Airy; 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 2:00 pm Friday, August 09, 2013, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Donald Grizzle and Rev. Raymond Payne officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-9 pm on Thursday and from 12-2 pm on Friday.
