James “Andy” Lawrence, age 50, of the Hollingsworth Community, passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2026.
Born in Toccoa, Georgia, on May 22, 1976, Andy was a son of the late Clyde “Dock” Lawrence and Frances Lynn Vandergriff Lawrence.
Andy was employed with Habersham Hardware for a number of years, where his hardworking nature, honesty, and friendly personality earned him the respect of those with whom he worked and served. A humble man with a strong work ethic, Andy believed in doing things the right way and was known for being honest to a fault.
A true outdoorsman at heart, Andy found great enjoyment in farming, gardening, and working with farm animals—especially his chickens. He loved tractors and anything that allowed him to spend time outdoors working with his hands. Andy was also an avid Ford enthusiast, with a particular fondness for Mustangs and Rangers. A talented woodworker, he enjoyed creating things with his hands, and over the years he also developed collections of coins, stamps, and Case knives.
Above all, Andy loved the Lord and had a deep appreciation for God’s Word. He was a devoted reader of the Bible, finding strength and guidance within its pages. His faith was an important part of the man he was and the life he sought to live.
Those who knew Andy will remember a man who never minded sharing a joke or bringing a smile to someone’s face. He was humble, genuine, hardworking, and deeply respected by those who had the privilege of knowing him. Beneath his joking nature was a kind and caring heart, and there was nothing more important to Andy than his family. He especially treasured the time he shared with his grandchildren, who brought tremendous joy to his life.
Andy leaves behind a legacy found not in possessions, but in the simple and meaningful things he valued most—faith, family, honesty, hard work, and treating others with respect. His familiar sense of humor, humble spirit, and love for those closest to him will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
Survivors include his daughters, Jennifer Olandez and Julie Lawrence; grandchildren, Liliana Lawrence, Lilian Olandez, and Mila Olandez; brother and sister-in-law, Darion Lawrence (Julie); sisters and brothers-in-law, Patty Pursley (Rickey Underwood) and Kelley Forrester (William); aunt and uncle, Barbara Chastain (Coleman); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services are 11 am on Friday, August 21, 2026, in the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & McEntire, with Rev. Donald Grizzle officiating. Interment will follow in Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery with Chaplain Jonathan Tolbert officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the funeral home.
