Obituary

Mahala Wade Moody, age 79, of Alto, Georgia, took her Heavenly flight home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 19, 2026.

Born at Downey Hospital in Gainesville, Georgia on February 20, 1947, she was a daughter of the late Vance Green Wade and Birdell Blalock Wade. Mahala was a gifted Master Cosmetologist who dedicated more than 50 years to serving her community through her beloved business, Mahala's Beauty Shop. Throughout the hair care community, she was affectionately known as the "Master Teaser," a title that reflected both her talent and her larger-than-life personality.

Mahala was a supportive wife, loving mother, and cherished "Gan" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She possessed a servant's heart and a joyful spirit that touched everyone she met. Whether she was preparing a meal for family, sharing one of her many stories, or keeping everyone laughing with her quick wit and sense of humor, Mahala made every gathering brighter. She never met a stranger and was never afraid to speak her mind. Her honesty, kindness, and genuine love for people created countless friendships and lasting memories over the years.

A faithful member of Line Baptist Church in Alto, Mahala loved the Lord and treasured her family above all else. Her life was a beautiful testimony of faith, perseverance, and devotion. The legacy she leaves behind is one of love, laughter, compassion, and unwavering dedication to those she held dear.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 32 years, David Keith Moody; and her beloved brother, Curtis Wade.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, LaDon & Ricky Shaw, Laura Lee & Greg Burrell, and P.J. & Coral Hulsey; sister and brother-in-law, Vancine & Charles Chandler; brother and sister-in-law, Christopher & Beverly Wade; special sister-in-law, Vicki Wade; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Funeral services to celebrate Mahala's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2026, from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & McEntire Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Burrell and Rev. Kenneth McEntire officiating. Interment will follow in the Line Baptist Church Cemetery, with her son, P.J. Hulsey, officiating at the graveside.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2026 and from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
