Melvin Martin, age 96 of Demorest, passed away Monday, February 1, 2016.
Born in Madison County, Georgia on March 19, 1919, he was a son of the late Loris and Pammie Lewallen Martin. Mr. Martin was retired from Habersham Mills and was a member of Clarkesville Church of God. He enjoyed gardening and bird watching.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Margie Rogers Martin; brothers, Clarence, Curtis, Arzo and Wilmer Martin; sisters, Pauline Jarrard, Francine Floyd and Lucille Phillips; great grandson, Brandon Miller.
He is survived by his son and fiancée, Larry Martin and Joyce Stephens of Hollywood; daughter and son-in-law, Janie and Vernon Mintz of Demorest; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Golda Shubert of Demorest; brothers and sisters-in-law, Verner and Ann Martin of Statham and Robert and Joyce Martin of Virginia; sisters, Agnes Richie of Commerce and Edna Lacey of Alabama; grandchildren, Brandy Lovvorn, Brent Shubert and Pam Martin; seven great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Graveside services are 2 pm Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at Yonah Memorial Gardens with Rev. Tim Tanner and Joyce Green officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.
