Obituary

Nellie McConnell Sutton, age 90, of Alto, Georgia, formerly of Homer, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

Born in Towns County, Georgia, on February 7, 1936, Nellie was a daughter of the late Paul E. McConnell and Mae Burch McConnell.

Nellie was a dedicated employee of Piedmont Automotive, where she worked as an inspector until her retirement. Away from work, she enjoyed expressing her creativity through painting and treasured the opportunity to travel and experience new places.

She was a member of Maysville United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, Nellie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Everett Sutton; son, Edward Sutton; son-in-law, Mark Cathey; sister, Clara Dodd; and brother, Horace McConnell.

Survivors include her daughters, Patricia Cathey and Debra King; special nephew and spouse, Wallace and Delorace Dodd; special friend, James Berdine; grandchildren, Jeremy Brookshire, Candice Davis, and Jade King; numerous great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Nellie will be remembered with love for the life she lived, the family she treasured, and the many memories she leaves behind. Her legacy will continue through those whose lives were touched by her presence.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & McEntire Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Methodist Church Cemetery in Alto.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
