Richard David “Rick” LaHayne, age 72, of the Batesville Community, Clarkesville, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.
Born in Tampa, Florida, on January 26, 1954, Rick was a son of the late Richard Douglas LaHayne and Vermell Chamblee LaHayne.
Rick was the longtime owner and operator of The LaHayne Corporation, where he dedicated many years of hard work before his retirement. Known for his strong work ethic, generous heart, and willingness to help anyone in need, Rick was the kind of man who would truly give someone the shirt off his back. He believed in working hard, taking care of those he loved, and always being there when someone needed a helping hand.
Above all, Rick was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather. His family was the center of his world, and nothing brought him greater happiness than the time he spent with those he loved. Perhaps his most treasured title was that of “Papa.” His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and it was no secret that they had their Papa wrapped around their little fingers. Whatever they wanted to do, Papa was usually right there, ready to join in and make another special memory. The love he poured into his family, the lessons he taught through his example, and the countless memories they shared will remain treasured gifts for generations to come.
Rick was of the Presbyterian faith. He will be remembered not only for his hardworking hands and giving spirit, but also for the tremendous love he had for his family and the lasting impact he made on the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.
In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his beloved son, SGT. James Thomas LaHayne, and five siblings.
Survivors include his loving wife, Cathy Bates LaHayne; sons and daughters-in-law, Justin and Whittney LaHayne, and Zac and April LaHayne; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy LaHayne Woodbury and Justin Woodbury; daughter-in-law, Staci LaHayne; beloved grandchildren, Karagan and Elijah Branson, Knox LaHayne, Mose LaHayne, Emily Gowdy, Meritxell Woodbury, Colton Gowdy, Olivia Woodbury, Justean Woodbury, and Bailee LaHayne; sister and brother-in-law, Annette LaHayne Carpenter and Chris Carpenter; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of dear friends.
A Celebration of Rick’s Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2026, from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & McEntire Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until the service hour on Monday.
