William Edward Burton, age 75, of Mount Airy, Georgia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
Born in Demorest, Georgia on December 10, 1950, William was the son of the late William Castalow Burton and Ora Lee Ansley Burton. He graduated from South Habersham High School with the Class of 1969 and later fulfilled a personal goal by earning his degree from Piedmont College as a member of the Class of 1983. His determination and commitment to education reflected the quiet perseverance that characterized his life.
William was a member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church. He lived with humility, kindness, and a gentle spirit that endeared him to those who knew him. Though he preferred a simple and quiet life, the love he shared with his family and friends left a lasting impression. His steadfast character, warm heart, and unwavering faith will be remembered with great affection by all who were blessed to know him.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his sister, Elwanda Combs; his brother, Richard Burton; and his beloved nieces, Celeste Combs and Emilee Burton.
Left to cherish his memory are his sister and brother-in-law, Betty M. Simpson and Ken Simpson; nieces, Glenna Combs, Addie Jo Combs, Christy Combs, and Mandi Simpson; nephews, Shawn Burton and Shannon Burton; along with other relatives, church family, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Saturday, August 1, 2026, from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & McEntire Funeral Home with Rev. Trent Smith officiating. A private family interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens in Demorest.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial donations be made in William's memory to assist with funeral expenses.
